American Accent Training for Graduate Students

Are you frustrated because you are not as fluent in American English as some of your classmates? Are you concerned about establishing good relationships with your graduate school professors in order to get good references for your future employment? Are you concerned about the impression you will make in job interviews after you get your degree? Are you worried about doing well during an internship, which could lead to a permanent position? Are you worried that when you leave graduate school, you will have trouble on the job communicating all that you have learned? Are you concerned about being able to effectively communicate on the job with clients, customers, patients, partners, or colleagues?

Learn and integrate American English accent and pronunciation speaking patterns for improved clarity and confidence!

Although many foreign graduate students pass standardized tests of English language proficiency, those with a strong accent are not always able to communicate with confidence in the classroom. Our American accent training program enables students to participate more actively in the classroom—and beyond.

How American Accent Training with AccentAccurate Works

The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) separates language into two parts: segmentals, which are the individual sounds of the consonants and vowels; and suprasegmentals, which are features of speech, such as stress, intonation, pitch, timing/rhythm, and loudness. AccentAccurate accent coaching begins by assessing both these areas of your speech and tailors the accent reduction program to meet your needs. Following ASHA guidelines, Accent Accurate incorporates a variety of strategies, including listening and imitating, phonetic training, minimal pair drill, visual aids, practice of vowel production, and altering stress patterns, as needed.

AccentAccurate American accent training is highly individualized to your individual needs. Clients typically start with our 12-week accent training program. However, some opt to extend their coaching, while others find that the 12-week program is sufficient for their needs. Although everyone’s rate of progress is different, consistent attendance at training sessions and ongoing practice between sessions are vital to the success of your accent training program.

Client Testimonials

"…Yesterday I gave a ten minute presentation and asked a friend to record it so that I could hear myself talking, and the difference between yesterday and a talk I gave 6 months ago (and also have on video) is amazing! I highly recommend working with AccentAccurate if you feel like communication is an important part of your work or even if you feel the need for clearer communication in your day to day life.
